If it were not for~の意味は「～がなければ」です。これは形として覚えましょう。
また、主節も仮定法と同じようにwould＋（動詞の原形）が入るので注意しましょう。
事実とは反対のことを表すので、正しく訳せるようにしましょう。

If it had been not for~の意味は「～がなかったら」です。If it were not for~の過去バージョンです。こちらも主節にはwould have +(過去分詞)が入るので注意しましょう。
これも事実とは反対のことを表すので、正しく訳せるようにしましょう。

without/but forで書き換えよう
without/but forは、If it were not for~とその過去形のIf it had been not for~のどちらにも書き換えることができます。
時制が関係なくなるので、英作文などではwithout/but forの方が使いやすいかと思います。
